It’s truly a momentous time in history, with more and more gay and lesbian couples getting engaged to be married - especially in the NJ/NYC tri-state area.
With this rise, a lot of same-sex couples are researching to better understand the logistics of planning a wedding ceremony and reception, but are discovering there are many misconceptions about what ``they should (or should not) do. At Jeron Music DJ and Photo Booth Entertainment, we believe, that a wedding should be whatever any couple (same-sex or different-sex) want it to be.
In her popular blog...
veteran wedding planner Sandy Malone (www.brides.com) points out that more than one hundred years of etiquette has dictated the rules for traditional different-sex weddings. As a result, she states that:
“gay and lesbian couples are left to make it up as they go along — and that isn't a bad thing! It actually gives brides and grooms the option to do whatever they want without anybody saying they're breaking the rules, but it can still raise some questions if you don't plan ahead for exactly what you want to do.“

In addition, many gay and lesbian couples have expressed to us their struggles in finding wedding vendors who are comfortable with performing services for their same-sex wedding. At Jeron Music DJ & Wedding Entertainment, we have experience with assisting brides or grooms with their wedding planning and event/entertainment coordination, as well providing them with a sense of comfort during this stressful process.
During our consultations, we like to familiarize ourselves with every couple's preferences and tastes, yet we recognize that many of the typical wedding roles and processional segments might have to be adapted to meet the setting of a same-sex wedding.
Some of the logistical considerations same-sex couples (or their friends and family) may have are:
Who is sitting where?
How do the brides or grooms walk down the aisle?
Who is part of the ceremony?
Naturally, some of these questions are expected to arise and can be addressed by couples and discussed with a seasoned wedding professional. At Jeron Music, our online planning tools serve as an aid in allowing couples to view what a typical wedding timeline looks like, so ultimately they can formulate their own wedding day agenda that best suits their vision. We encourage all same-sex couples to make it uniquely their own by inputting any songs, speeches, segues, entrances, customs and special moments that they feel will truly make their wedding day experience personal to them.
When brides or grooms ask us for input regarding certain logistics and etiquette, we’re glad to make appropriate suggestions based on what we’ve seen occur at similar same-sex weddings and events. One suggestion we make to couples is that it's always a good idea to have a balance of different kinds of moments, so that the contrast between them can really highlight the couple when the spotlight is on them. It's also a good idea to not only (obviously) feed your guests but provide them with quality high energy entertainment. In general, all wedding couples (regardless of sex), and their guests, want to have a good time -- because dancing, laughter, and picture taking all evoke feelings of togetherness and love during a celebration like a wedding.. That's why we're a big proponent of our "Fun & Classy" approach towards wedding DJ and photo booth rental entertainment at any event. It's a guaranteed good time for all.
Ultimately, we remind same-sex couples who are stressing over their wedding planning that: there really are no rules anymore, and you can make your wedding whatever you want it to be.
At Jeron Music Entertainment, our customer service towards all couples is our priority and is evidenced by this bride's review from a same-sex lesbian wedding who commented:
“Jeron was extremely professional and accommodating. He is VERY organized and sent a detailed invoice back to us right away along with a contract outlining his services and what we had discussed. He also sent a link to a questionnaire detailing the wedding step by step including intros, music selections, and a step by step guide of every pivotal wedding cue. The week before our wedding he had a phone conference with us where he was very detailed oriented with flawless communication, even requesting exact YouTube URLS to ensure the correct song versions were played. I myself am very OCD and especially in planning for a wedding with everything we had on our plate and everything we were worried about it was refreshing to have him so on top of things and prepared. A big load off my shoulders! He thought about little things that didn't even cross my mind! He also was very good about handling a last minute switch! This was all BEFORE the event.”
